TRAINING & CONSULTING

Build Your Team’s Competence

Hands-on training, workshops, and scale-up consulting. Training on Contichrom® hardware, ChromIQ® software, and the five process modes — plus the annual three-day Continuous Chromatography Workshop at FHNW, Muttenz. Consulting available for method development, scale-up, and validation strategy. Training and consultation are customized to your needs.

The Key to Independent Expertise

YMC ChromaCon provides structured training programs and consulting engagements for teams working with the Contichrom® platform. Every engagement is customized to your team’s experience level, your applications, and where you are in your adoption journey. Training is available on-site at YMC in Zurich or via remote webinar. Alternatively, training can be provided at the customers site (Requires a Contichrom® system).

Our training programs and consulting engagements are available to pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies across Europe, as well as educational institutions. Customers outside Europe should contact their local YMC ChromaCon distributor, who may offer training and consulting services under separate arrangements.

The three-day Continuous Chromatography Workshop at FHNW is available to all, though experience in prep chromatography is recommeded.

Training Programs

Structured, hands-on learning for your team. Training covers the Contichrom® hardware, ChromIQ® software, continuous chromatography theory, and specific processes — assembled from a menu of topics tailored to your needs. Programs range from focused single-day workshops on a specific process or software module to comprehensive multi-day courses that take a team from fundamentals through to independent operation.

Deliverable: A team that can operate the system, design methods, run processes, and evaluate results without external support. Training Certificates are provided.

Consulting Engagements

Expert advisory and hands-on support for specific technical challenges. Consulting covers process modeling, method scale-up from the CUBE to PILOT/TWIN production systems, validation strategy, and advanced process optimization. Engagements are scoped to a defined question or objective and delivered as focused sessions or ongoing advisory.

Deliverable: Answers, strategies, and technical guidance tailored to your specific process and regulatory context.

Training Topics

Every program is assembled from the topics below. You choose what’s relevant — we build the curriculum around it.

Hardware — Contichrom® CUBE

System architecture, fluidics, pumps, valves, detectors, and column configuration. Hands-on system startup, shutdown, maintenance routines, and troubleshooting. Overview of the CUBE (up to 100 mL/min, 100 bar) and how methods scale to the PILOT 300X and TWIN production systems.

Software — ChromIQ® 9 Suite

The complete software ecosystem: ChromaCraft™ for batch and integrated 2D/3D batch method design, process wizards for CaptureSMB®, MCSGP, and N-Rich®, the Evaluation Center for data analysis and reporting, and the Expert Mode editor for advanced method customisation. Hands-on exercises using the actual software.

Continuous Chromatography Theory

Principles of twin-column chromatography, how continuous processes differ from batch, counter-current operation and side-fraction recycling, breakthrough curve dynamics, cyclic steady state, and the role of dynamic process control (AutoPeak® and AutomAb®) in ensuring process robustness.

Processes

Practical training on specific Contichrom® process modes, tailored to your application:

Process Application
CaptureSMB® Continuous capture — maximize resin utilization for affinity and bind-elute steps
MCSGP Continuous polishing — eliminate the yield-purity tradeoff for gradient separations
N-Rich® Automated enrichment — isolate low-abundance impurities at semi-preparative scale
2D/3D Integrated Batch Link multiple orthogonal chromatography steps in a single automated run
Batch Standard single-column chromatography on the Contichrom® platform

Process Modeling, Scale-Up & Validation

Process modeling approaches for predicting continuous chromatography performance, practical scale-up from the CUBE to PILOT and TWIN production systems, and an overview of validation considerations for continuous downstream processes.

Formats at a Glance

All formats are customized. The table above reflects typical structures — we build the exact program with you during scoping.

When to Engage

Preparing for a new system

You’ve purchased or ordered a Contichrom® system and want your team ready from day one. A comprehensive training program is included with a system purchase and covers everything from hardware setup and software workflow to process design and troubleshooting — so your operators and scientists can work independently when the system arrives.

Expanding process capabilities

You already run batch or CaptureSMB® on your Contichrom® system and want to explore MCSGP, N-Rich®, or integrated batch workflows. A focused workshop introduces the new process mode, walks through the relevant ChromIQ® wizard, and discusses how to adapt it to your existing methods and applications.

Moving toward production

You’ve developed a method on the CUBE and need to scale it to the PILOT or TWIN for manufacturing. A consulting engagement covers process modeling, column and flow rate scaling, method transfer documentation, and validation strategy — drawing on ChromaCon’s experience supporting technology transfers across scales.

Looking for a different service? Our feasibility studies evaluate continuous chromatography performance with your molecule, and our custom purification services produce purified fractions from your starting material.

Refreshing or upskilling a team

Staff turnover, new hires, or simply a need to go deeper. Training programs can be repeated or adapted for new team members, and focused workshops can address specific knowledge gaps.

Pricing

System rental and purchase include 3 days of on-site training as standard. Supplemental training programs and consulting engagements are quoted per engagement based on the scope, duration, format, and number of participants. Contact us with your requirements and we’ll provide a tailored proposal.

Included in the quoted price: All preparation, delivery, training materials, and follow-up documentation. For on-site sessions, this includes full use of YMC ChromaCon’s application lab equipment.

Not included: Travel and accommodation for your team (for on-site sessions in Zurich). Any consumables used during hands-on exercises are included unless the scope involves running your own samples — in which case consumable costs are agreed in advance.

Payment terms: Payment is due within 30 days of invoicing. For multi-day engagements, invoicing occurs upon completion.

Certificates: A certificate of participation is provided to all attendees upon request.

Looking for a no-charge introduction to the technology? See our Demos & Introductions page — demos of the Contichrom® CUBE and ChromIQ® software are offered at no charge for prospective customers.
